Final adventure of honeymoon bliss

I hope all of my honeymoon blogging is not boring my readers.  I promise this is the last of the honeymoon recaps.  Except some day, I may have some videos of the wedding and honeymoon to share :)

Our second and final excursion was to visit Mayan ruins.  We went to Tulum and Coba.
I had been to Tulum on my study abroad trip, but given my bad memory, it seemed very new and fresh.  (Also very hot and muggy, lol).
I love trees, so it was fun to see the different landscapes.

In between the visits to the ruin sites, we had some beach time.

Time for a jungle tour + more ruins

Many of these ruins were yet to be excavated.

We opted for the 15 minute walk through the jungle to get to the tallest pyramid. Many people rented bikes.

We arrived!  Nohoch Mul was 138 feet high and we got to climb it!  I was tempted to go up twice, it was so fun.  Check out my twin at the top of the pyramid (creepy)!

The coolest and unexpected thing was that when you get to the top and turn around, all you see is jungle for miles on end.  Pictures again do not do it justice, but trust me, it was awesome!

 Although it was a very long day, it was worth the time we spent away from relaxing.  So glad Tyler got to share in this very cool adventure.  I can't wait to go back again.  Mexico, I love and miss you very much!

Adventure #2 plus more

I wanted Tyler to see Mexico outside of the resorts so we ventured to Puerto Morelos for a bit one day and stayed our last 2 days in Playa del Carmen.

The heat was overwhelming, I must admit, so instead of our initial plan of walking the 30 minute beach walk to the town, we took a taxi.  There were 2 lighthouses to see, yay!

We did a little shopping in the city, then headed home.  I got my new hat in Puerto Morelos, wish I had an occasion to wear it everyday!

The below photo is taken in Playa del Carmen.  We enjoyed a nice walk on the beach there on our first night.  

The town has changed a lot since Amysita and I studied in Mexico 13 years ago!  Much more touristy, but not as bad as Cancun thank goodness.  Still fun to walk around and people watch.

Our hotel was incredibly simple compared to the resort, but it had lovely gardens and cheerful paint colors.  We didn't spend much time there anyway so it was just fine.

I do realize now though why all inclusive resorts are a draw, they are far easier to adjust to :)  You don't have to think about where to eat, someone arranges your travel for you, and you have everything you need right at your fingertips. Luxury is good to an extent :)  All in all though, I am glad we got to see multiple sides of Mexico.  And, it was so nice to practice my Spanish!

Adventure #1

Adventure #1 of the honeymoon consisted of a lot of sunshine and a very bad sunburn (oops)!
We were carted off to Cancun with 2 other couples from our resort where we met up with a group of others and boarded a catamaran.

Destination: Isla Mujeres.  This island is located across from Cancun and is 4.3 miles long.  Less developed and inhabited than Cancun, thankfully.



The sail to the island was very uneventful, while the return trip was another story (more on that later).  The best part of the trip there was our first snorkeling adventure.




We were in the middle of the ocean, crystal blue water, and got to see coral reef, a VW bug at the bottom of the ocean, scuba divers, and lots of colorful fishies.  We also drank a lot of salt water (another oops)!



It was very pretty, though relatively short.  Perfect for our first time out there though.  Unfortunately, I didn't think to take pictures of us in our gear, except this one of my foot :)



After snorkeling, we headed to the island to Dolphin Discovery, a dolphin theme park.  We were excited to play with dolphins!  It turned out to be one of those cheesy things that you really only need to do once but we had a good time.  And bonus, the lunch was great!

 After playing with dolphins, we took a taxi ride to the central area of the island for some shopping and relaxing.

It was very windy, which was perfect given the heat!

You know it is hot when all you want is shade and a nice cold glass of water :)
