Tyler and I traveled to Vancouver BC for three days last week. We both were fortunate to have the week off and I am glad that we took advantage of it! The rain did not dampen our spirits, but it was quite chilly at times. On day 1, we visited the Vancouver Aquarium, which was just as fun as I remembered it to be! I loved the dolphins and sea otters in particular.
Afterwards, we drove around Stanley Park and got lost in the dark. No worries, though, we found our way to a nice dinner at Cardero's on the water and then the warm, cozy hotel!
On day 2, we crossed the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge through North Vancouver to West Vancouver. We hiked around the trails of Lighthouse Park to find spectacular views of the city and of Point Atkinson Lighthouse.
Karlie and Jordan would be proud of our hike :) It felt nice to be outdoors and active after so much eating over the holidays. Here is a shot of me as a well-prepared hiker :)
For lunch, we ate at a nice pub on the beach of English Bay. I have discovered my second favorite beer ~ the Boathouse Killer Whale Ale, yum!
In the afternoon, we toured Stanley Park, in daylight this time. We saw the totem poles, Brockton Point Lighthouse, Prospect Point Lighthouse, and multiple views of the city.
In the evening, we rode the miniature train to view the Bright Nights display. There was also a small farmyard to walk around. It was very fun!
On day 3, we rode the elevator up the Vancouver Lookout (similar to the Space Needle), walked around Gastown, and went to the Granville Island Public Market (similar to Pike Place). We visited the
Model Train Museum and Tyler was in 7th Heaven! This museum is home to the world's largest collection of model and toy trains on public display.
We returned to the US safe and sound. Border crossing into the US was surprisingly much less of a hassle than going into Canada, so that was a pleasant surprise. We stopped in Bellingham for dinner at Boundary Bay and then for a visit with Tyler's family in Bothell. Blayne and Megan flew up from California, so it was nice to spend time with them.
