a weekend away...

To take advantage of the three day weekend, Tyler and I headed to the ocean for some R&R. Westport, WA was our destination, south and across Grays Harbor from Ocean Shores. We stayed in a fully equipped condo, an excellent choice if I must say so myself :)

On day one, we took a two hour walk along the beach and the dune trail. We wrote in the sand, enjoyed the beautiful weather, and of course, took in the breathtaking views.

After our long walk, we prepared a very tasty supper and dessert and settled in with a movie.

The proud fruit pizza chef...

On day two, we took another walk on the beach, toured the Grays Harbor Lighthouse (tallest in the state), visited the Westport Maritime Museum and Lighthouse exhibit, walked along the marina, and went out for a tasty seafood dinner!

Back at the condo, we enjoyed another beautiful sunset!

On our way home, we visited the Capitol building in Olympia. Senate was in session, so that was an added bonus.

All in all, it was an excellent vacation and I am terribly sad that the weekend is over. I am sure I will cheer up soon :) Look on the bright side, I start my new job on Saturday!

The day of love

Valentine's Day 2008 ~ I began the day in celebration with the enrollment services division at SU. We enjoyed a delicious and festive breakfast together.

After work, Tyler and I headed out for a dinner date.

He surprised me with beautiful earrings and we tried a new restaurant, Trader Vic's in downtown Bellevue. There were even pretty roses waiting for me at the restaurant table! It was a very tasty and relaxing evening! What a great Valentine I have :)

The latest addition...

Here she is...the latest member of the Hauck family. Barlee, a 1 year old English Mastiff, almost 100 pounds already! We don't know a lot about where she came from or her exact age because she was left overnight at a vets office by someone who did not want her. :(
She is doing very well, is very social and surprisingly mellow.
Here she is running around checking everything out...

And here she is with dad and Bear. Of course, the horses are curious in the background...

What a sweetheart :)

Hockey, for a good cause!

Jordan invited us to a hockey game to benefit SightLife. Here is a shot of Karlie and Jordan, taking a break from their hard work...

At the pre-game party, we were able to tour the office, eyebank, and learn more about the organization and its amazing work!

The Thunderbirds were victorious, 2-0!

It was our first hockey game, and all in all a fun experience.

Hauck family fun

On Saturday, Tyler and I went to my mom and dad's house for a good home-cooked meal. We helped mom and dad make ram noodle and krautnip, two of my favorite German dishes.

The cats and dogs kept a close eye on all of the action (haha)! Never a dull moment in that house!

Superbowl 2008

Although I was rooting for the Patriots to accomplish the perfect season, I am happy for the Giants win. It's always fun to see the underdogs pull it off, and what an amazing game it was!

Garin, who works for Pepsi, contributed to the festive atmosphere in the Grand Salon. Roy brought his projector & screen so we could see the game in high style. I made an excellent artichoke dip, and we had an all around great time.

Celebration :)

To end last week, I found out the great news that I have a new job!!

I will start as Graduate Programs Coordinator in the Albers School of Business and Economics here at SU on February 23rd. I am very excited for this position and for a change :)

This is so funny
...In response to the announcement of my departure, one of the Associate Deans on campus emailed "The registrar's office without Laura Hauck? That's like peanut butter without the jelly, Christmas without Santa, a beach without an ocean, a toddler without a blankie..."
Haha...I guess it is quite the adjustment, being that I have been here for 8+ years!

To celebrate, my mom took me out for Thai food (yum)! After some R&R in Auburn and catching up with the family, I headed to Tylers for a nice visit. We cooked a yummy supper, went shopping, and geared up for the Superbowl Party on Sunday. Pictures to come...
